Where can I find an ergonomist who could examine my workplace?

WorkspaceIf you click on "Members", you will be able to search our member list according to the canton and the service you are looking for. You will then find a list of our members as well as a list of their competencies. You can then decide if you want to use the services of a certified ergonomist (see CREE), if you need the ergonomist to perform a complex task. Most of our members are capable of evaluating an office workplace. For more complex tasks like product design, software, evaluation of industrial work environments etc., it is advised to hire the services of a member with the appropriate training and specialised skills. In general certified ergonomists can deal with a large range of tasks however they usually specialise in a certain domain.

What does ergonomic design mean?

Ergonomic DesignErgonomics is a science that tries to find the workplace or work interface that is best suited when it comes to man-machine interaction. Ergonomists know about the sorts of problems humans can face because of certain layouts and designs and also about the effects of these layouts and designs. Ergonomists try to optimise the interface between humans and their work environment so that the work can be accomplished more efficiently without the workers suffering any damage, getting tired too quickly or suffering from discomfort. Ergonomists are trained to analyse a work situation in a global way. This covers among other things: the layout of the workplace, the workflow within a task or between different tasks, the necessary tools and equipment, the physical environment and the necessary training, communication and organisation. Ergonomists co-operate often closely with engineers, developers, designers and architects. They work on a user-oriented design, which could also be called an "ergonomic design". In reality an ideal "ergonomic design" does not exist since adjustments must be made again and again according to individual needs or on specific jobs.

How can I train to become an ergonomist?

Click on "Further Education" to find a description of ways to broaden your knowledge in ergonomics. For many years now the international ergonomics associations have agreed upon a certification standard. In Europe this certification standard is incumbent on the CREE (Centre for Registration of European Ergonomists). Click on the CREE symbol to find out more information about it.

How can I become a Swissergo member?

Please note that in order to become a member you require the sponsorship of another member. If you do not know another member personally please contact the committee for more information.
